Default Common Reference in MS Word

Hi,

I heard that in a word document we can create a main item and reference
it to a common place. Basically, in a word document that I create I
want to make changes at a "single point" for common "variables" or
references and have the change reflect throughout the document.

For example if I change version number in the first page it should
reflect throughout or I change date in the first page .. the place
where i use Date in a referenced manner it should get updated
automatically.

Any help to guide me on how to create this kind of reference in MS word
will be very helpful.

Thank you.
Santosh

One good way is to create a custom document property in the File
Properties Custom dialog, and then use DOCPROPERTY fields in the document
to show the value you entered. For other possibilities, read
