Default files saved as wordpad, not word

Have tried winword /r with no success. I have a C: drive from an old computer
that has files saved in word 95 (now all saved in wordpad). All new files
saved as word come up as wordpad. Why?

Thanks for any help!

In Windows Explorer, go to Tools Folder Options File Types. Select the
DOC extension. If it says these files open with WordPad, click the Change
button and select Word instead. Make sure the "always open with this
program" box is checked, and click OK.

Thanks for your help. Files now open as word documents, but still have
wordpad logo in files. Does this make any difference?

No, it doesn't make any difference except the appearance. If you want to
change that, there's a Change Icon button in the same dialog where you
changed the program.

If you need to browse to the Word program to find the right icon, it's
called winword.exe and it's in a folder under C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office (the exact folder depends on what version of Office you have).

You can make that icon anything you want...I often change my icons just
because I don't like the standard ones.
