Default files not in alpha sequence when inserting or opening in word 200

in word 2003, when inserting a document, the document listing to chooe from
is in random order, thus difficult to find the required docoment. The same is
true when trying to open a docment.

It is not random; it's just not sorted by name (probably by Modified date or
some other property). Switch to Details view (if you're in a different one)
and click on the Name header. Or right-click in the open area of the window
in any view and choose Arrange Icons By Name.
