Default How do I replace a text? The feature was turned off somehow.

Somehow, the feature to bold and overwrite a text is turned off on my word
docs. Does anyone know how to restore this feature?

For the latter, make sure that "Typing replaces selection" is checked on the
Edit tab of Tools | Options. For the former, does Ctrl+B not work?
