Page break and page number issue
For some reason my page numbers are consistantly messing up any time a page
break is put in. The pages after the break are numbering correctly in the footer, but the Table of Contents is reducing the page number by one for each break before a given title. For example page one and two are an introduction followed by a pagebreak then the next title in the document on page 3. The third page correctly displays page 3 in the fotter, but the TOC lists the title as being on page 2. In case there was a page breaking issue with the title on one page and the marker on the previous I deleted the title and created it further down the page, but got the same problem. Even worse, all titles after the page break are off by a page (or more if there are more page breaks). |

Page break and page number issue
Instead of inserting a manual page break, format the heading paragraph as

Continuous pg numbering thru several section breaks
I have footers figured out; I have starting page 1 on the 3rd page; now one
more. If I have a 100 page document and have 15 section breaks, and start numbering on page 3, how to I make it automatically do continuous numbering throughout the rest of the document? I did it section by section but if I have to add additional pages I would have to manually paginate again. Is there a way that my entire document with be numbered with just a click of one button? If not, I really will have to send a letter to Bill Gates! |

Continuous pg numbering thru several section breaks
I think for Martha's document, it would be section 3 she did this in,
possibly section 4. Anyhow, the first section *after* the one where you restart numbering. When I'm dealing with long documents, I think I generally get all the section breaks, etc, figured out before worrying about things like a title page and exact page numbering, etc. Assembling the content before worrying about the exact formatting can dodge some such issues. I know you were practicing on a dummy document, in this case. However, it also depends--if you want all your headers/footers unlinked, for instance, unlinking the second section before you create the others can save you unlinking in every section, if I remember correctly. If you are messing with 100page documents, you might be interested in the long document links indexed he http://daiya.mvps.org/bookword.htm On 8/31/06 5:42 AM, "John McGhie [MVP - Word and Word Macintosh]" wrote: Set the page numbering in Section 2 to "Continue from Previous". Regrettably, you should have done this before adding the other 14 section breaks! Now, you are going to have to change the setting for each one, because they have all picked up the "Start at 3" option. Unfortunately, the linking/unlinking "status" of headers and footers will not be transferred to a newly inserted section (unlike, say, page number restarts); instead, the Link to Previous/Same as Previous is always turned on, in a new section, regardless of the settings in the previous one. -- Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP |
