Default Instance of Word Problem

Dear All,

I apologise for posting this question on this group, but I cannot find an
appropriate group to post it.

I can't figure out why on some people's machines when they select Word from
the Office Shortcut bar they get a new instance of the Word exe (and New
Window) and for others the one open receives the focus. We are all using
Office 97 (don't laugh!) with Windows XP professional environment. I am
unsure whether there is a link between general users and users who may have
additional rights (i.e. Registry Rights).

And once again I apologise for posting on what is an inappropriate site.

Thanks again...

Well, if everyone is using Word 97, then I'd check the PROPERTIES (right-click
on the button) of the icon on the Shortcut bar. Do you see any / after
winword.exe, followed by a letter? If yes, what do you see?
