Default A problem in Word 2007 on linked files

Has everyone encountered this?

a), create a document with Office Word 2007
b), insert a .docx file as linked
c), save it on disk
d), unselect "Update automatic links at open" option(Word Options-
Advanced-General)

e), open this file directly
f), close it directly without any changes

result: i got a prompt to save changes to this document, is it as
designed by Word 2007?

There are possibly "changes" that may take place depending on the content of
the document even though you don't edit it yourself: if there is a DATE
field, if there is font substitution - just to name a couple.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for you reply.
Can you confirm that so long as the document with a linked file(e.g.
word file) is opened, even though user don't make any other changes
after that, Word 2007 will think this file is "dirty". i wrote a COM
Add-in and found that the Saved property was changed to "false" after
opening the file with linked.
