Default after correcting the text following is erased

Using Word when I correct a word in a document , the next word is erased and
so it goes on until I have to virtually rewrite the whole document

Default after correcting the text following is erased

Press the INS key once or double click the OVR button on the Word status
bar. You are in overwrite mode.
