When I double click a .doc extension, wordpad opens. I tried changing file
associations using the "default programs" dialog box, but after choosing winword.exe, it still does not show up as the default program?? How do I force .doc extension to open Word 2007... ??? HELP FYI, I can launch Word 2007 and then use "file open" to open a .doc file, I just can't double click a .doc file to launch Word 2007 Caby Smith |

First see how to re-register Word when problems crop up opening files
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/ReRegisterWord.htm and if that doesn't fix it select a document in Windows Explorer, right click and choose Open with... Did you check the 'always open with this application' check box?
From Windows Explorer Tools Folder Options File Types - select Doc. Is the associated text Microsoft Office Word 97-2003 Document? If not re-register Winword as already indicated. If it does, click advanced and ensure that 'Open' is the default action and that the Open dialog has the following entries: Application "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE12\WINWORD.EXE" /n /dde %1 Use DDE checked DDE Message [REM _DDE_Direct][FileOpen("%1")] Application Winword Topic System -- Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org Exhibit Imaging wrote: Hi Graham, I'm not trying to be rude, but did yo read my post? Yes... but if you read the post, double-clicked .doc files open "Works", or
any other program you want to associate with it..... except WINWORD. It simply will not let you associate Winword.exe A quick search will show you that lots of people are having the same problem... Your link seems to be for people who have two versions of Word installed.. ??? Done all of that, and for the record, the "always open with this application"
check-box is greyed-out. After selecting Winword.exe, and clicking O.K.... it does not show up in the list... my research shows many other people are having the exact same problem. Also... I am Running Vista sp1 (I should have mentioned this... sorry), so
the "Windows Explorer Tools Folder Options File Types " does not work... no "file types" tab in Vista. "Graham Mayor" wrote: Did you check the 'always open with this application' check box? .doc files do not launch Word 2007
Hi Exhibit Imaging, try this:
In Windows Explorer: Right Click Open With Choose Program Checkbox "Always use this program to open this kind of file" Select "Microsoft Office Word 2007" in list Okay If you have not installed Compatibility Pack and Conversion Files you should do so. Better to be prepared for all instances. Post back if you don't succeed.... "Exhibit Imaging" wrote in message ... When I double click a .doc extension, wordpad opens. Your continued sarcasm doesn't exactly encourage fellow users to want to
help you. There is nothing wrong with the link. It works when clicked in your message.
