I have Word 2003 and when I go to set up the page margins, among other
things, the measurement has changed to 'points' rather than the inches I am
used to working with. And, since I don't understand points, I cannot get the
document to be setup correctly.

I have looked everywhere and cannot find out how to change this back.

If it really is points you can change it under Tools Options General.

But it may be character units, in which case see the article "You cannot
change ruler measurement unit from character units after upgrade to Office

I *think* the character units issue affects only the ruler, not dialogs.
