Default Paste command no longer deletes selected copy; can I fix?

In the new release of Microsoft Word, when I select copy to paste over, the
copy is no longer deleted. Instead, the new pasted copy shows up next to the
selected copy. Can I fix this so that when I select copy to paste over, the
selected copy is deleted when I paste (as it always used to be)?
