Thumbs up Answer: Word Count Excluding bracketed words

Yes, it is possible to exclude words in brackets from the word count in Microsoft Word. Here's how you can do it:
  1. Open your document in Microsoft Word.
  2. Click on the "File" tab in the top left corner of the screen.
  3. Click on "Options" at the bottom of the left-hand menu.
  4. In the Word Options dialog box, click on "Proofing" in the left-hand menu.
  5. Under "When correcting spelling and grammar in Word", click on "Settings".
  6. In the "Grammar Settings" dialog box, scroll down to the "Exclude" section.
  7. Check the box next to "Exclude textboxes, footnotes, and endnotes".
  8. Click on the "Exceptions" button.
  9. In the "Exceptions for" dialog box, check the box next to "Bracketed text".
  10. Click "OK" to close all the dialog boxes.

Now, when you run a word count in Microsoft Word, any words in brackets will be excluded from the count. Keep in mind that this setting will apply to all documents in Microsoft Word, not just the one you're currently working on.
