I had great fun finding the "FILE" icon. I eventually found it under the
Office Logo. Is there a way of putting it on the desktop?

In the Beta 2 version of the Office 2007 Ribboned apps (Word, Excel, Powerpoint). The 'Office Button' replaces the File=Menu
choice.
You can add and of the individual choices from the Office Button/File menu to your Quick Access Toolbar (QAT) by either clicking on
a choice and using 'Add to Quick Access Toolbar' but you aren't able to add a 'ribbon tab' (including Office Button) to the QAT.
Other than the QAT, you can customize the Ribbons, to some extent, using
'Office 2007 RibbonX' (XML customization files). Microsoft doesn't provide the RibbonX modification capability for the Ribbon from
the User Interface, but there are add-ins folks are working on to help with that.

The Alt+F keyboard shortcut from prior versions of Office still works to bring up the 'File' menu.
