Default How do I continue a table's caption on multiple pages?

Trying to determine how to continue a caption (not header rows) on a given
table that spans multiple pages. For example: Table 1 Apples and Oranges
(Cont.) Any ideas? Using MS Word 2k3, does this version of Word even have
this capability?

Why not put it in your header? That would be simple enough to do!

Try putting it in the header of the page. View, Header Footer. If you
don't want it on the first page or want a different title on the fist page,
you can go File, Page Setup, Layout.

It's for a government document that has certain requirements as to what can
be in the header and footer. As such, text already populates the header and
footer of the document. Any other ideas?

Are you saying that you wouldn't be allowed to put that text into the header?

This can be done, sort of, even though Word doesn't (yet) provide any
automatic way to do it. Add the caption as the top row of the table and mark
it as a heading row. Include "(Cont.)" in the caption. Then, on the first
page only, draw a text box (No Line, White Fill) over the "(Cont.)." The
text box must be anchored in a non-heading row of the table so that it won't
repeat.

Just an extension of Suzanne's suggestion...

If you also have column headings that you want to repeat, you *can* select
more than 1 row at the top of the table an check the Row Property for Repeat
as header.

Well, I assumed the user would know that, violating my cardinal principle:
Never Assume. Thanks for the backup.
