Default Does the Excel function COUNTA work in Word?

I'm trying to count the number of cells with any text in a column of a table.
I could use the COUNTA function in Excel. If COUNTA does not work in Word
(does not appear to), are there any workarounds to do this?

Mathematics, within Word, is quite restricted. You could perform the
calculations in Excel and copy the table into Word. The Formulas and
Functions would not copy across but the values would.
