Default RTF doc only saves in Word Pad

I have MS Word 2003 from MS Office 2003, XP Professional and XP Home
Edition--right now I'm having to use the XP Professional and all of my RTF
docs have converted to Word Pad and when I try to save a NEW RTF doc it also
saves in Word Pad. I need it to save in MS Word not Word Pad. Is there a
way to do this? I've gone into Save As and Selected the only RTF doc
selection. It's still saving it in Word Pad. This did not happen in XP Home
Edition and I had the exact same MS Office 2003 cds used in both.

I think the problem is that RTF has been associated with WordPad instead of
Word.
As you cannot make RFT save to any specific application your description of
being saved in WordPad is incorrect.
Quickest way to correct this, go to Windows Explorer, find an RTF file,
mouse-right-click, Open With, Choose Program, select MS Word, check the
"Always use the selected program...." box, OK.
From now on all your RTF files will open in Word.
Hope this helps

Thank you so much--I had gotten so far as "open with," but forgot all about
if I "Choose Program" that little box would come up and say "Always use this
program to open." No more sleepless nights because of that pesky Word Pad!!!!!

THANK YOU!!! And thank you for answering so quickly!!!!

Glad it worked for you.
You are not alone forgetting the "Choose Program" option, many of my
collegues frequently ask me what is going wrong and they have forgotten this
option.
All the best

Your files aren't being saved in a specific program. Your computer thinks
that .rtf files should be opened in WordPad. You need to change your file
associations.
