Default how do you costumize space bar?

When writing a document and i am trying to put space between words the space
bar erases the next letter so i was wandering how to turn this off or how to
change it to normal?

Default how do you costumize space bar?

Press the Insert key (make sure number lock is off). You are on overtype mode.
