Default how to reduce double spaces in between words (not lines)in word 20

words there were double spaces. If i tried to reduce it by pressing delete

Unless you see two dots between words with nonprinting characters displayed,
then you don't actually have two spaces. If your text is justified, then
some lines may have very large spaces between words (in the jargon of the
trade, these are "loose lines"); you can remedy this with judicious
hyphenation. Or, if you see circles instead of dots, it may be that the
spaces are en or em spaces, in which case you can select one and press the
spacebar to replace it with an ordinary space.

Are there actually two spaces? Turn on the display of formatting (click ¶ or
CTRL+SHIFT+8) and see how many dots there are between the words. If as I
suspect there is only one, then this is probably just a display anomaly or a
printer driver limitation.

Do you have your text justified? In order to justify text extra space is put
between words. However you can't delete these "extra" spaces.
