Default I can load MS Word XP but I cannot open any documents - it says t.

I am able to open MS Word XP but I cannot open documents. When I try to open
a doc files I get a message file is not available. I also get a message
everytime I try to close the program that the file Normal.dot already exists,
do you want to replace it and you have to click yes, to close the message.
Can anyone advise me how to fix these problems? Thank you.
