Thumbs up Answer: how to insert a solid line for signatures, dates

Here's how you can insert a solid line for signatures and dates in Microsoft Word:
  1. First, place your cursor where you want to insert the solid line.
  2. Go to the "Insert" tab in the ribbon at the top of the screen.
  3. Click on "Shapes" in the "Illustrations" group.
  4. Select the "Line" option from the drop-down menu.
  5. Click and drag your cursor to draw the line where you want it to appear.
  6. To make the line solid, right-click on it and select "Format Shape" from the drop-down menu.
  7. In the "Format Shape" pane that appears on the right side of the screen, select the "Line Style" option.
  8. Under "Compound Type," select "Solid Line."
  9. You can also adjust the thickness and color of the line using the options in the "Format Shape" pane.
  10. Once you're happy with the appearance of the line, click "Close" to exit the "Format Shape" pane.

That's it! You should now have a solid line in your document that you can use for signatures, dates, and other purposes.

Most simply, display the Drawing toolbar, select the Line tool, and draw the
line where you want it. This and four other ways of creating lines are
discussed in http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/TblsFldsFms/LinesInForms.htm.

I usually create a signature line using underline characters, an underlined
tab character, or a tab with an underline leader, then type the text on the
line below it.
