Microsoft knows how -- it's you that doesn't, yet. Now you will, too...

- Click Insert Object.
- Choose Microsoft Graph Chart. Click OK. This inserts a default bar chart
and shows a little spreadsheet filled with fake data.
- Right-click the graph area and choose Graph Type.
- In the left column of the dialog, click Pie Chart. On the right, choose
the style of pie chart you want. Click OK.
- In the spreadsheet, enter your real values in row 1, and their labels in
the unmarked row above it. You can delete the extra rows 2, 3, etc. if you
don't want to see them; they won't appear in the chart if they're there.
- Right-click the chart again and choose Chart Options if you want to change
the chart's appearance (for example, remove the legend or show the values or
labels next to the pie pieces).
- When you're satisfied with the chart, click anywhere else on the page to
exit the chart mode and make the spreadsheet disappear.

That could be because Word is not a drawing program. If you insist on drawing
a pie chart you can mess with the AutoShapes drawing tools, but will probably
not end up with what you want.

Since most charts are based on data values, however, you might want to try
InsertPictureChart, where you can enter the values & let the chart be drawn
for you. The default is a 3-D Column chart, but you can use the ChartChart
Type menu to pick whatever style of chart you want.

This is only one option, but others are available if the chart already
exists in an Excel workbook, for example.
