Lock fields
Using Word 2000. Inserting an automatically generated
date field, how do I lock this? When opening the document later, the date must remain the original one. Any hints? Best regards Jesper |

You need to replace the field with a CREATEDATE field, which displays
the creation date of the document: Press ALT+F9 to display field codes. You'll find that your date is a DATE or TIME field. Type CREATEDATE instead of DATE (or TIME), press F9, and then press ALT+F9 again to hide field codes and show field result. -- Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP "Jesper" wrote in message ... You are using a DATE or TIME field rather than a CREATEDATE field. This
field should be put in the original template if possible (instead of inserting using the keyboard shortcut or header/footer toolbar button). In the document in question, press Alt-F9 to display field codes. Then change the field to a CREATEDATE field, press F9 and then Alt-F9. See http://addbalance.com/word/datefields1.htm for information on the different kinds of datefields and how to format them. In answer to your original question, if you right-click on the date and select lock fields, it will lock. You are better off, though, changing to the correct field. -- Charles Kenyon Word New User FAQ & Web Directory: http://addbalance.com/word Intermediate User's Guide to Microsoft Word (supplemented version of Microsoft's Legal Users' Guide) http://addbalance.com/usersguide See also the MVP FAQ: http://www.mvps.org/word which is awesome! --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- This message is posted to a newsgroup.
