Hi Dear Suzanne,

I have tried the same procedure many times and restarted the computer.
However it didn't work.
I'm still not able to either send to or view the Document Image Writer in
the printer folders. MS Document Imaging Software (Office2003 with SP1) warns
me uninstall and install again! I did the same thing many times.

Could you help me please? Thanks.

I finally got it reinstalled into my computer this is what I did

"I went to Microsoft Word 2003 (instead of Office) and clicked on
Reinstall or Repair Microsoft Word 2003 to its original state. AND it
worked. It is back in my printer list."

Should we have to do what GrannyDonna did -- reinstall/repair Word 2003 to
its original state? This doesn't make sense; why would MS have an update and
not want us to use it? I also tried adding a new printer to the exosting
imagewriter port, but it wanted a physical printer identified to put there...
I miss this ability to print to a *.mdi file...

Thanks!

Default why was Microsoft Office Document Imaging removed from printer

Hi Dave,

This one usually happens if the Office 2003 installation
was damaged in someway before it was updated. (i.e. there's
nothing in the update itself to remove the Document Image Writer).

Suzanne~

I was hoping this would work, but it isn't. Are there any other
suggestions??? I see that these questions were asked quite a long time ago,
so hopefully someone will check this and help me out. I like using this
program and don't have Adobe to make PDFs, so this works well for me. Please
help!!!

Thanks.

If you have followed Suzanne's instructions and the image writer has not
been created, repeat the setup and uncheck the writer. Complete the setup,
then repeat and re-add it.

Image writer does not create pdfs and its files can opnly be read by someone
with thye same software. If you want to create PDFs and don't want to buy
Acrobat there are several free tools that will create PDF to be found.

I know that it doesn't create PDFs, it just something similar that works...at
least for what I need it for. Anyway, I've done what Suzanne said under the
Control Panel and all that stuff, but it's still not working. I've done it a
few times. Any other suggestions? Would it help to uninstall Office all
together and then reinstall?

Thanks.

Default why was Microsoft Office Document Imaging removed from printer

I am having the same problem, "Microsoft Office Document Imaging is missing
from my Print folder" after reinstalling Office Pro 2003 and after
reinstalling my whole operating system Windows XP Pro. I have it listed as
an option under my programs listings but is not an available option under my
print folder. When I tried what you stated below there was no option to
"Choose advanced customization of applications". I have removed it and added
it to "Run from all computers" but it still does not show up in my print
folder. I tried to run the script from the a previous post and it came back
as a "unknown driver". I dont understand why it should be so difficult.

Same here,
I can run Microsoft Office Document Imaging, but if I click on the File
menu, I get the error:
Microsoft Office Document Imaging has encountered a problem and needs to
close.
The Microsoft Office Document Imaging Writer print Driver is not in the

I have tried to reinstall several times, even tired uninstalling it as

I have not completely uninstalled Office 2003.

Great site, thanks.

Yes I followed the steps on your page.
I had uninstalled the Document Image Writer and the other two parts, then
reinstalled it before coming here. No luck.
Cannot remember what I installed last, but I did install the Adobe Acrobat
Pro version 7 recently. Or maybe it was all the updates I installed.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks

Thanks for the reply, but!!! I do not quite understand, is there
anyway you could walk me through it step by step? like go to
start-click, click control panel, click on ----, this would be
helpful since that is as far as I got, (Peeked in side add &
remove programs but that was as far as I got)

Default why was Microsoft Office Document Imaging removed from printer

Early version of Acrobat Pro 7 's addin for Word conflicted badly with
Word's operation, so ensure that you have all the updates installed and see

Great site, thanks.

Yes I followed the steps on your page.
I had uninstalled the Document Image Writer and the other two parts,
then reinstalled it before coming here. No luck.
Cannot remember what I installed last, but I did install the Adobe
Acrobat Pro version 7 recently. Or maybe it was all the updates I
installed.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks

Same here,
I can run Microsoft Office Document Imaging, but if I click on the
File menu, I get the error:
Microsoft Office Document Imaging has encountered a problem and
needs to close.
The Microsoft Office Document Imaging Writer print Driver is not in
the control panel print folder.

I have tried to reinstall several times, even tired uninstalling it
as suggested in this thread.
I have not completely uninstalled Office 2003.

I am having the same problem, "Microsoft Office Document Imaging is
missing from my Print folder" after reinstalling Office Pro 2003
and after reinstalling my whole operating system Windows XP Pro.
I have it listed as an option under my programs listings but is
not an available option under my print folder. When I tried what
you stated below there was no option to "Choose advanced
customization of applications". I have removed it and added it to
"Run from all computers" but it still does not show up in my print
folder. I tried to run the script from the a previous post and it
came back as a "unknown driver". I dont understand why it should
be so difficult.

Start | Settings | Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs | Microsoft
Office [Edition] 2003 | Change | Add or Remove Features, check the
box for "Choose advanced customization of applications." Select
Microsoft Office Tools and click the + beside Microsoft Office
Document Imaging. Make sure that Microsoft Office Document Image
Writer is set to "Run from my computer." Then click Update.
