Default Pressing Alt+A should open the Table menu, but does not, why?

Word 2003 - There is no other command assigned to Alt+A and using the Alt key
to open other menus works fine, just not on the Table menu. Pressing Alt+A
only highlights the Table menu, but does not open it.

Has there been any customizing of the Table menu? If not, try
ToolsCustomizeToolbars, click the *name* of the Menu Bar, then click the
Reset button.

Resetting the menu bar does work, however, we have 3 custom menus. I was
hoping that we could figure out why that one menu won't work. We may just
have to redo the custom menus. Thanks!

My guess is that in one (or more) of your custom menu names the letter 'a'
has been designated as the "trigger" character. If there is more than one
menu name with the same trigger the app will simply _select_ the first one
(from left to right) so the user can Tab to the other(s). Once on the correct
menu, press Enter to open it.

Since pressing Alt+A does highlight the table menu, I've already told the
user to just press the Enter key or down arrow, but he doesn't want to do
that!

I moved my custom menus to another toolbar temporarily and reset my menu bar
but it didn't fix the Table menu. None of the custom menus have a letter set
as a trigger character so it's a mystery!! I'll keep brainstorming and try
to figure it out!!

Since you're already 2/3 of the way there, why not remove the Table Menu
completely and add a new copy from the Commands list in it's place?

That sounded like a great idea..I thought it would work, but it didn't. I'm
going through the VBA code to see if I can find anything. I don't know much
VBA so I'm not sure what I'm looking for! :-)

Default Pressing Alt+A should open the Table menu, but does not, why?

Just wanted to let you know I figured it out...so you can help others with
the same problem. I reset the toolbars just to see if that made a
difference...and it did...Alt+A started working for the Table menu. so I
removed custom buttons one at a time and determined it was the Save As...
button that we added. The Save As button has the A designated as the trigger
character so I removed the ampersand and it works fine now. Don't know why
it still allowed me to highlight the Table menu and not open it, but at least
the problem is solved. Thanks for you help!

Thanks for posting back... just in case you do check in again, the Menu Bar &
Toolbars are essentially the same controls collectively referred to as
'Command Bars', so the Alt+Underscore works the same for both. I should have
thought to mention that originally.
