Default Expandable/Collapsable info in Word Docs

Not sure how to phrase what I want to do, but I'll give it a shot:

Is there such a think as expandable or collapsable info in a word document?
So if you click on a word or icon, it opens up some hidden reference text?
Something like a hyperlink, but without having the document be dependent on
the locations of other documents? (Does that make sense?)

Basically, I have a document that cross references with many other
documents. Rather than have people hunt through multiple files, I'd like them
to be able to look at one document, and if they need additional info on
something, they can just click on this "collapsable" or "expandable" word or
icon and the info they need will open up.
