Default Getting Spell Check Macro to work

Hi, and after two days of trying I'll certainly appreciate your help in
getting this macro
( http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/MacrosVBA/...ProtectDoc.htm )

to run in Word 97, SR 2, Windows XP, Home Edition. I keep getting "Compile
error: Expected End Sub" and other errors as well. Is there a newer version
of Word that will allow spell checking in protected documents ?

The following is the Macro that I've created:

Hi Tom,

You only missed one thing. In step 1 of the article, it says "paste the
following code in, first deleting anything in the code module that Microsoft
inserted automatically". You didn't delete the lines that were there before
you pasted, and now they're causing the problem.

Delete this line at the top:

Sub Pulease()


and delete the very last line:

End Sub


(note that there are two lines like this at the end, just delete one and
leave the other).

Later versions of Word work the same way as Word 97 in this respect.

Hi Jay, tried that and nothing good happened. The first part, couple of
lines, of the macro now looks like this except with a solid line after the
third line below across the page:

Dim oSection As Section, OriginalRange As Range

When I enter the keyboard shortcut (Ctrl+F12) it now takes me to opening a
Word document. and, the name I had assigned to the Macro is gone/missing from
the Macros. thanks, tom.

Hi Tom,

You're getting there, one step at a time. :-)

The name of the macro, as you have it now, is RunSpellcheck. If you'd
rather call it something else, go to the line

Sub RunSpellcheck()

just below the solid line (yes, that line is normal) and change the
word RunSpellcheck to your preferred name.

The shortcut you had on Ctrl+F12 was tied to the name you assigned
before, so it's gone back to Word's default. You'll have to assign the
shortcut to the macro again. To do that, open the Tools Customize
dialog and click the Keyboard button. Select "Macros" in the left-hand
list, select your macro name in the right-hand list, put the cursor in
the "Press new shortcut key" box, and press Ctrl+F12. Click the Assign
button and then Close.

Hi Tom,

Like I said, one step at a time. :-) The dashed line is part of the
stuff youcopied out of the web page, but it isn't something VBA knows
how to use. Just delete the dashed line. VBA will automatically put a
solid line there as a separator between the two subroutines (that is,
End Sub is the end of one subroutine, and Private Sub is the start of
the next one). Also delete any other dashed lines that look like the
first one.

Hi Jay - It worked (Of course you knew that.) I'm assuming that Note 2 at
the bottom of the MVP Macro is to work only in those documents that you have
the password for ? Is there any way to spell check a password protected
document where the password is not known ? Can't thank you enough for your
great help, tom.

Hi Tom,

Glad to help. That's what we're here for.

If a form is password protected and you don't know the password, you can't
unprotect it (in theory) so you can't spell-check it.

I said "in theory" because it just ain't so. If you open a new blank
document and use Insert File to insert the form, the result is not
protected and has no password. You could then run the macro on this copy to
spell-check the fields.
