Default Opening Word and the Top Line - below lines are all missing

When you first open Word, the top line reads Home, Insert Page layout, etc
etc. I do see the top line and nothing else below.
As an example, if I want to select an open, like change my font, I would
have to hit "Home" to get all that information on font. After changing my
font, the top line appears, nothing below it. If I wanted to select bold, I
have to select "Home" so that my options appear below the top line.

Is there anything I need to do to correct his?

Press Ctrl+F1 to toggle on/off display of the Ribbon.
