Default can't edit data

I am trying to add to my recipient list but the edit button is unavailable
(grayed out). Why and what can I do to fix it?

Default can't edit data

Use the data source with a Directory type mailmerge main document in which
the place the merge fields in the cells of a one row table. Then execute
that merge to a new document which will give you a document containing a
table with one row of data for each record in the data source. Insert a row
at the top of that table and into the cells of that row, insert the names of
the merge fields. Then you can edit that document, add rows to it for new
records etc. and save it and use it as the data source for your other mail
merges.
