What style is currently applied
I'm modifying a document and want to change some of the styles. In Word 2003
you could select text and Word would show, in the style drop down box, what the current style was for that text . I can't seem to find that functionality in Word 2007. |

You can always keep the styles pane open, but even though it uses a lot of screen estate, it does not always show you which style is applied. At least in the Beta, if you had lots of styles, you sometimes had to scroll through the list to find the highlighted style. Haven't checked if that issue was fixed in the release version. Patrick Schmid has written a "StyleChooser" add-in with a replacement of the old styles dropdown. http://pschmid.net/blog/2006/06/ Regards, Klaus |

Hi David,
The Styles drop down is still available and it can be added to your QAT - you'll find it in the "Commands Not in the Ribbon" category. Note this command was previously dropped but added back by popular demand. :-) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Beth Melton Microsoft Office MVP Word FAQ: http://mvps.org/word TechTrax eZine: http://mousetrax.com/techtrax/ MVP FAQ site: http://mvps.org/ "David G. Presumably you can also still use the Style Area in Normal (now Draft) view?

Yep, the Styles area is still available as it was in past versions.

Yeah, unlike some of the other commands that were simply removed from the UI
but you can still access them using VBA, the "white text on blue background" option is one that has been complete removed. BUT you could use the Page Color command, found on the Page Setup tab. If you select a dark background then Word will automatically change the font color accordingly. If you aren't printing the page background then the document will also print correctly. You'd just need to remember to change the page background to back to white before sharing it with someone else. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Beth Melton Microsoft Office MVP Word FAQ: http://mvps.org/word TechTrax eZine: http://mousetrax.com/techtrax/ MVP FAQ site: http://mvps.org/ "Robert M. Oh, I have no quarrel with removing that particular view option. Changing windows window settings usually brings me there when I really need it. I cannot help but wonder: it seems tricky at best when Office starts to guess the font color. I haven't encountered any bad surprises so far, but can imagine to end up in white-on-white (under weird circumstances, no doubt :-)).
