a box that says I need to activate ActiveX control.

If you don't know what an ActiveX control is, you certainly don't want to
activate it automatically. ActiveX controls contain programming code, so could
be potentially dangerous. Do you have any idea to what Add-in this control
belongs? What's the exact wording of the message you see?
