What causes word to erase the rest of the document?
Sometimes my Word2003 behaves strangely (on a WinXP machine with enough
resources): I freezes, and often do some annoying things in the same process. A few minutes ago I sat waiting while the rest of a long document was being "swalloved" by the cursor, and there was no way stopping it. When this process ended I had to do the usual Ctrl-Alt-Del routine to get out of Word. I had eight documents open at the same time - could this be the culprit? Or is it the Google indexing in the background? |

The only ways I can think of that the text would be 'swalllowed' when your
hands are not on the keyboard would be if you were in overwrite mode (press the INS key to toggle between INS and OVR) and either you had a sticking key on your keyboard or you have speech recognition active and the microphone switched on. OR You have a virus. It is not *usual* to have to CTRL+ALT+Del out of Word. Thanks for the answer! A few comments:
1. Overwrite mode - no. 2. Speech recognition - no. 3. A sticking key - perhaps. It looked like I was pressing the Delete key down all the time, but I didn't. A while ago I had a problem now and then with repeated letters or spaces (two or three instead of one), but since then I've replaced the keyboard and upgraded from Word2000 to Word2003. No other program has shown cases of this problem. Another and possibly related problem has been that the cursor suddenly starts to move towards the top of long documents, and Word freezes when it reaches the top. That's why I often have to do the Ctrl-Alt-Del routine.
