Default merging word documents

I have to merge several peoples changes into a single document. Each person
created their own copy of the doc, made their changes with tracking on. Now
when I attempt to merge I get the message "The merged
documents contain unmarked changes. Do you want to merge up to the first
untracked change?" Select "yes", no change. What does this message mean?
What's causing it? How do I get past this and accomplish what I'm trying to
do.

Default merging word documents

Hi ?B?THlsZUJfQXVzdGlu?=,

I have to merge several peoples changes into a single document. Each person
created their own copy of the doc, made their changes with tracking on. Now
when I attempt to merge I get the message "The merged
documents contain unmarked changes. Do you want to merge up to the first
untracked change?" Select "yes", no change. What does this message mean?
What's causing it? How do I get past this and accomplish what I'm trying to
do.

In this case, you should start with ONE of the documents and accept/reject the
changes. Turn off change tracking. Save it (to a new name, preferably, so that
you don't lose the original in case problems occur).

Now open one of the other documents and accept ALL the changes.

Now you can merge this document with the first one. Differences between the two
will be shown as tracked changes. Accept or reject these. Repeat these last two
steps until all files have been processed.

Note: there is no way to combine all these separate files and retain who has
made which suggestions.
