Styles 2007
I have 3 styles that I use most of the time. Occassionally I use another
style which then replaces one of my 3 styles that are displayed. Is there any way to select which styles appear on the Styles group (without having to click down arrow)? Thank you |

If I'm following what you want, you want to be able to quickly add those
styles you use the most to the Quick Styles gallery for your documents, right? If that's the case then modify the styles in the Quick Style gallery to your liking, add those you want to see and remove those you don't want to see. (Right-click the style in the gallery and then click the Remove command to remove them) Once you have the Quick Styles gallery setup, to set your current Quick Style set as the default, click Change Styles and then click Set as Default. Then for documents that may already have a customized Quick Style set that you want to switch out, click Change Styles, point at Style Set, and at the bottom click Save as Quick Style set. Name your file and leave it in the QuickStyles folder so it will appear in the Style Set list for all documents. Then to swap Quick Styles when needed, just select your custom set from the Style Set menu. Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup. Thank you for your reply, Beth. What I really want to do is "fix" 3 of my
styles so that they always appear as the visible styles so that I don't have to click the down arrow and find the style I want. in other words, I want the visible styles to remain the same all the time and not change according to use. I think what you're looking for is to set the Recommended order for your
styles. On the Styles pane, click Manage Styles at the bottom. (To display the Styles pane, click the dialog launcher - the button with the arrow in the bottom right corner of the Styles group.) Then on the Recommended tab, select your Style and then click Move Up until your style appears at the top of the list. Watch for the number that's assigned when you click the Move Up button. You want them assigned as priority 1, so they'll appear first, and then do the same for your other styles. You can then place them in the order you want to see them in the Quick Style gallery in the list. Click the option "New documents based on this template" and then click OK. I'd still use the Set As Default command for your modified Quick Style set, as I previously described, and save them as a Quick Style Set so you can switch them for any documents you've already created. Note that if you do need to click the More button (down arrow) to select another style you still may need to scroll the Quick Style gallery back to the top - unless you remove those styles you don't want to see so they only show in one row. Also, you can assign keyboard shortcuts to styles you use frequently, if you want to do that, let us know and we'll provide instructions. Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup.
