Default I have problem with MS Word; can anyone help?!

Every time I try to start a new document in Word, I get an existing document
(the same one every time) appearing when I click "Blank Document". The only
way I can type anything is by choosing "template" and typing my letter there.
However, this is obviously no good, since I can't currently save any
documents in "My documents". Can anyone help??
