when I am typing, if I go back to fix something, word erases what I have
already written, it has something to do with the override button, how do I
get this to stop?

Default override

Locate the Insert key on your keyboard, then press the Insert key once.
Or double-click the OVR indicator on the status bar at the bottom of
Word window on your screen.
