How can you delete a header or footer from a section without removing it

Before you can delete a certain header (or footer) you must (i) unlink it
from the corresponding header (footer) in the preceding section, *and* (ii) you have to unlink the header (footer) of the following section as well. Note that each section can have up to three different headers (and three different footers), which is the case if you select "Different first page" as well as "Different odd and even" in Page Setup. Not sure if the web page you mentioned refers to a previous version of Word, but the paragraph where it says: "Whenever you do want to create a header or footer that is entirely different from the one in the previous section, however, you need to unlink the header and footer. You do this by clicking on the Same as Previous button on the Header and Footer toolbar (to turn it off)." In Word 2007, the Header & Footer Tools ribbon bar, shows "Link to Previous" instead of "Same as Previous". Took me a moment to translate what the instructions were referring to. After disabling "Link to Previous", the footer in Section 2 is now displaying correctly. Thanks ! kittronald |

Actually, the terminology isn't consistent between versions. Word has
changed back and forth between "Link to Previous" and "Same as Previous."
