Default solved: find and replace lines , issue with * and ^p

if you try to replace a line, text starting with

file1
"
line1ENTER
line2ENTER
line3ENTER
"

so to delete line2ENTER, do

edit...replace... more..use wildcards -- check that
so you can use *

Though this creates an issue.. The "special list" changes, and no
longer has ^p, you can type it, but that does the same as choosing
it. ^p does not work. When using wildcards.

now to remove line2 with the ENTER,
instead of doing line2*^p
(which does not work)

do
edit..replace..
And in the find box, do
line2*^13

(in the replace box, replace it with whatever, e.g. nothing)

note- it may be that when choosing "use wildcards", that means use
regex. And that is why ^p does not work, and why the special list look
suspiciously like regex symbols!

interestingly, this answer came from experts exchange!
of course , things on usenet are in a better place. But there is some
good expertise there. Not just idiots as it should be on a non usenet
forum! all answers are viewable without registering.. you just have to
scroll past some adverts. I mention it because that is the source I
read the answer from.

the site is a bit crappy, I found a link to register free(just to see
the difference between being registered and not being registered).
They start you off with like 255 "points", and asking questions uses
points, and to ask any more you have to earn or buy more. And when
asking a question, you offer x of your points. I am suprised it has
any expertise at all. Any experts residing there instead of usenet
must have a screw loose. Add that to the fact of the ads and that at
any time it could go completely payware, or the archive could go. one
can have more faith in Google's usenet archive not being removed from
the public..

^p has never been available as a search string for Wildcard searchs in Word.
Use ^13 in the search string and ^p in the replace string. See
http://www.gmayor.com/replace_using_wildcards.htm

If you don't like the web interface for accessing the Microsoft forums (and
who does?) then see http://www.gmayor.com/MSNews.htm

shut up.

you know this is a newsgroup, and this is usenet.

and if you can`t see that I know, then you have half a brain. You may
be a good techie, but like many, you lack the most basic insights.
