Software to migrate Office 2003 Word files to Office 2007 Vista
I have some Word and Excel files on CDs and on a WD external hard drive that
were created in Office Basic Edition 2003 on a Dell XP. This week I upgraded to Vista and purchased Microsoft Office Home & Student 2007 with Word, Excel and Powerpoint. I have read there is a utility or something that will convert the Word and Excel documents so I can download them to the Vista "C" drive. I'd appreciate any ideas. |

You don't need anything to convert them. Just open them.

To be more precise, when you open an Office 2003 document in Office
2007 programs, it'll be in "compatibility mode" (you should see that term next to the document's name in the title bar). You can convert the document to the new file format by clicking the Office button and selecting Convert from the menu. If you don't do that, the document will remain in the old file format. Each of the Office programs can deal equally well with both old and new formats, but documents that are still in compatibility mode won't support some of the new features, such as SmartArt. -- Regards, Jay Freedman Microsoft Word MVP FAQ: http://word.mvps.org Email cannot be acknowledged; please post all follow-ups to the newsgroup so all may benefit.
