Default How do I lock a document, but leave some areas unlocked?

I'm creating an application for my company by using a locked Word file. I
need to lock the entire page, while leaving certain blocks and blanks
unlocked and editable. How would I go about it?

What you are describing is a protected form. See
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customizat...nTheBlanks.htm and especially
the forms tutorials by Dian Chapman that this article links to.
