Default How to Insert AUtomatic update word link files

I only can insert files with link of Manual Type.
I am not able to edit the links in order to become automatic.
I am using Word 2003 with SP-2.

I want to be able to open the word file and automatically all links to be
updated.

How can this be done ?

Hi ?B?cmZt?=,

Not all link types support manual vs. automatic updating. If you're
inserting files with a link (IncludeText fields), they should update
automatically all the time.

I want to be able to open the word file and automatically all links to be
updated.

All the links are of type {INCLUDETEXT "complete file path"}.
They are not updated when the main document is opened (I have selected the
option "Update automatic links at open" - but by links are not automatic,
they are manual, so it does not work).
When viewing the existing links they are all of type "text" and with update
"Man".
The box "Automatic update" in the area "Update method for selected link" is
in grey and can not be marked (only the "Locked" box is available for
selection).

I beleive that it would work if the option "Automatic Update" could be
selected, but that option is not selectable (it is in grey).

No, it wouldn't. See this article

The security option mentioned in here is part of Word 2003, right from the
start.
