Default Referencing a Figure

I am using Word 2007 on Windows Vista.

I have inserted an image from a Snagit clipboard. I have assigned a figure
and caption to it.

I am now attempting to cross reference it from another place in the
document, with "See Figure x. page x" However, I can only get the page
number or it inserts the entire figure.

Any thoughts?

From the Insert Cross Reference dialog - select Reference Type = Figure. In
the right hand box Insert reference to Label and Number. Insert a second
reference from the same Reference Type dialog to Page Number. Type the
linking text. Thus you would get something like

See { REF _Ref238603897 \h } on page { PAGEREF _Ref238603915 \h }
which equates to:

See Figure 1 on page 1

Graham,

I believe that I have followed your instructions explicitly. I still get the
image copied to the location. I have worked around it by simply deleting the
image copy and do some manual formatting.

Thank you!

Make sure that the picture and the caption are in separate paragraphs (press
Enter to separate them), delete the cross-reference and then reinsert it.
