How can one open an Appleworks file in MS Office (Word)?

File | Open with Recover Text from Any File should get the basic
text--otherwise, you can't. Third-party conversion software might do it. I'd say the best bet is to ask the person who gave you the file to Save As RTF and resend it to you.
