i put a hyperlink, and when i click it, a notice say "This operation has been
canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your
system administrator?" Any idea how can i get rid of it?

It could be that you really do have a Group Policy that prevents Word from
launching hyperlinks:

If you need to look for the Group Policy items mentioned in the article,
open the Start menu Run box and type in "gpedit.msc", then press Enter.
Follow the directions in "More Information".

Or you could need an Office service pack or hotfix:

I didn't realize it, but most versions of Vista don't include the
Group Policy editor. Apparently MS decided that only geeks like me
should be allowed to shoot themselves in the foot. :-)

You can probably forget about it, though, because it's extremely
unlikely that you have a policy that's causing your problem (unless
you're in a company with an IT group that decided to muck with your
setup).

Did you look at the other two articles?

One of the links posted suggest editing parts of the registry but i am
unsure how to add microsoft as a trust. Can somebody please tell provide
step-by-step instructions the information in this link :

I am getting this same error message in Outlook 2003. It JUST started in the
past few days and I haven't changed anything. I've looked at all of your
suggestions and tried those, but still cannot click on a link in any emails
that I receive.

I, too, have an administrator account and my computer is a standalone, not
on a network.

Thanks! I ended up uninstalling ServicePack3 for Windows XP, reinstalling
Internet Explorer and no more problems. I did this because even trying to
reinstall IE, because of the "restrictions" that were put on my system all of
a sudden, I couldn't even re-install IE. This also fixed the problems that I
was having with Office 2003 apps.

I know this thread is old, but this may help someone. I just started having
the same problem. I followed all the KB articles, including the one about
importing a good registry key and none did anything. Here is what I did. It
sounds strange, but it worked. I installed Firefox (I imagine that any web
browser other than IE will work) and ran it and let it set itself as my
default browser. I checked and suddenly, my links worked. So then I started
IE and when it asked if I wanted it to be my default browser, I told it yes.
I then uninstalled Firefox. Everything works fine now. I hope this helps
someone out there.
