Default hyphen in mid column

I am typing a column of numbers right justified. I want a hyphen in mid
column but if I type spaces after the hyphen to move the hyphen to the left
it doesnt work??

Default

You could use a tab instead, but note that although it does not appear that
the spaces are doing anything, as soon as you type a number or other
printing character after them, you will see the desired alignment; Word's
default is to pile up spaces at the end of a line (outside the margin) until
a character appears.
