Overwriting selection
When I select text and then type new text, Word does not overwrite the
selected text but only inserts the new text before the selected text. This happened without warning. How do I fix this. XP Word 2003. |

The Insert key toggles between overwriting and inserting text.
At least in Word 2007, you can disable the Insert key; make sure to clear the option to "Use the Insert key to control overtype mode" (Office button | Word Options, Advanced category--you'll find the option under "Editing options"). -- Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP "Pete" wrote in message ... It's very easy to accidentally touch Insert, which is adjacent to
Backspace and Delete on the standard 104-key keyboard. On Jan 18, 6:06*am, Ed R Ed wrote: I echo the thanks of all the posters above! I too think I hit a bizarre shortcut to turn this off! Ed |
