How do I set up a word template for all to use?
Hi,
I am trying to set up a template for all my colleagues to use and to be able to gain access to it at any time. The idea is they take a copy of the original template then start working from the copy so the original is always left blank. Ideally the layout I am looking for is as follows: Page 1 General Product info etc Each subsequent page will have a new Header 1. This is another problem I am having. I need to be able to automatically set up the text styles so Header 1 is always started on a new page and in bold caps etc. This needs to happen for anyone using the template and not just me so must be automatic. Can anyone help? I've spent over an hour looking through MS Help and can't find a longterm solution. Thanks! |

Assuming you mean Heading 1 and not "Header 1" (whatever that might be),
define the Heading 1 style appropriately: bold, all caps, and "Page break before." And users don't need to start working from "a copy of the template." The definition of a template (*.dot file) is that it is never opened directly except for editing; users create new documents based on it; see http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customizat...platePart1.htm -- Suzanne S. First, everything Suzanne told you is gospel. Templates should never be
opened to be used. See also http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customizat...platePart1.htm for some more on setting up styles, headers and footers, etc. For more on the different kinds of templates, tabs on the file new dialog, and locations of templates folders see http://addbalance.com/usersguide/templates.htm. -- Charles Kenyon Word New User FAQ & Web Directory: http://addbalance.com/word Intermediate User's Guide to Microsoft Word (supplemented version of Microsoft's Legal Users' Guide) http://addbalance.com/usersguide See also the MVP FAQ: http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/ which is awesome! --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- This message is posted to a newsgroup.
