Default How do I find the "plus or minus" sign?

I need the mathematical "plus or minus" sign, i.e. a plus sign over a minus
sign. Is there a trick or a symbol I have missed?

You can hold down the Alt key while you type 0177 on the number pad (with
NumLock turned on). Or you can use the Insert Symbol dialog, where you'll
find it about 20 characters past the lower case z. If you use it a lot, you
can assign a shortcut key combination to it.

For general info on inserting symbols, see

Thumbs up Answer: How do I find the "plus or minus" sign?

How to Insert Plus or Minus Sign in Microsoft Word

1. Place your cursor where you want to insert the plus or minus sign.
  1. Click on the Insert tab at the top of the screen.
  2. Click on the Equation button in the Symbols section.
  3. In the Equation menu, click on the Accent button.
  4. Select the Plus or Minus option from the drop-down menu.
  5. The plus or minus sign will appear in your document.

Alternatively, you can also use the keyboard shortcut "Alt" + "0177" to insert the plus or minus sign. Simply hold down the "Alt" key and type "0177" on the numeric keypad (not the numbers above the letters on your keyboard).
