First see how to re-register Word when problems crop up opening files
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/ReRegisterWord.htm and if that doesn't fix it select a document in Windows Explorer, right click and choose Open with... From the ensuing dialog select Word (winword.exe) and check the box to always open with this application. -- Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org Gary wrote: When I double click on a word document, word starts to open , but then a box appears that reads This file could not be found (C:\Documents.doc) After I click ok word continues to load my default template, not the file I double clicked. |

Thanks, re-registering got rid of the box , but now word opens with a blank
screen (no file or template). Did you try the second part of my suggestion? If that didn't fix the
registry issues, then from Windows Explorer Tools Folder Options File Types DOC - select and click 'Advanced' Ensure 'Open' is the default setting Select Open and Edit - then for Word 2003 (OFFICE 11) Ensure that the Application used to perform action contains "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\WINWORD.EXE" /n /dde Action is &Open Use DDE is checked DDE Message contains [REM _DDE_Direct][FileOpen("%1")] Application is Winword Save the changes -- Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org Gary wrote: Thanks, re-registering got rid of the box , but now word opens with a blank screen (no file or template).
