Hello,

I'm trying to insert text into a table of contents that doesn't actually
appear in the body of the document. In my case, I want to have the first
entry in the table of contents read "Cover Page", but the cover page doesn't
contain those words.

I've opted to create a heading 1 style with a hidden font, and written
"Cover Page" at the beginning of the appropriate section. I can't get the
entry to show up in the table of contents, even though the style shows up in
the settings for the table. I've turned on hidden text (shown formatting
marks) to see if it will show up, but no luck.

Just wondering, does anyone know how to accomplish what I'm trying to do,
or at least, why Word isn't displaying my hidden text in my table of contents?

Try using a white font instead of hidden text. Make sure that the TOC
style isnt white, though.

Hi Suzanne, Henk,

I wound up making a TOC field, and then setting the style of the field such
that the text is white...

The question remains though, will a TOC display text in a style that is
hidden? The style's definition includes "hidden" in the font, but it still
shows up in the dialog box to define the TOC... Would'a thought that under
those circumstances, it would display whatever text is in that style in the
TOC...

Word is inconsistent about Hidden. For example, StyleRef fields don't
respect *any* font formatting *except* Hidden.
