Default Viewing Encrypted Word Document on new Windows Install

Greetings.

I recently had to reinstall Windows (and Word) because of a new hard drive
installation. I have copied over all my old files to my new Windows
installation just fine and have reinstalled Word. However, one of the files
was encrypted on my old hard drive (by me) and now it won't open on my new
Windows install. It keeps saying acess denied. I understand that the
signature would be different now because of a new install, but is there
anyway to view this file now? I am using Word 2000 with all the updates.

Many thanks!

Bryan,

have you encrypted the document with Word 2000? This error message may
occur when the encryption provider that is used to encryt the document
is not available in the Word version that you try to open it with.
More information on then crypto providers in MS-Word is described in
http://www.oraxcel.com/projects/enco...tect_word.html

My suggestion is to try to open it on a PC running Word XP or 2003.

Good luck

John

P.S. you might be lucky because Word 2000 encryption can be removed
with almost any word password cracker due to a flaw in the encryption
method. ;-(

John,

I encrypted it with Word 2000 and I'm trying to open it with Word 2000.
It's all I have right now. That's interesting about the password crack; that
seems to be my only option doesn't it?
